On rare occasions the start of school may be delayed 2 hours.  On such days parents are asked to monitor the media sources and make the 2 hour adjustment. i.e. – If a student is normally picked up by the bus at 7:15 a.m., the 2 hour delay would move the pick up time to 9:15 a.m.  When delays occur, the school dismissal time will not change.

Rarely will school be dismissed early during the school day.  Should it be necessary to have an early dismissal, the dismissal will be approximately 2 hours earlier than the regular time.  On such days parents are asked to monitor the media sources and to make appropriate accommodations for their child(ren) to arrive home early.  Unless different information is on file at the school and signed by the parent, the student(s) will be sent home by the usual way.  If school is dismissed early due to weather warnings/conditions, all scheduled activities in which students are involved (practices, games, etc.) will be postponed or cancelled.  Possible Exceptions: High school athletic events, which will be determined by OCS administration and the participating school.

If mechanical breakdowns occur, it is possible that school officials, in lieu of sending students home early may choose to relocate students of a given school to other appropriate facilities.  School officials will attempt to notify parents of the temporary location.

Parents are encouraged to dress their children properly at all times and make sure a plan is in place for the children to get into their homes or go to a neighbor or another designated location in case of early dismissal or a delayed start.  If you have any questions regarding bus transportation or school dismissal procedures, please call your child’s school or the Superintendent’s Office at 865-2688.  EACH PARENT HAS THE FINAL RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE CARE OF THEIR CHILD; THEREFORE, ON DAYS WHEN SCHOOL IS OPEN AND THE PARENTS/GUARDIAN FEEL WEATHER CONDITIONS ARE NOT SATIFACTORY FOR THEIR CHILD TO WALK, RIDE, OR DRIVE TO SCHOOL, THEY SHOULD KEEP THEIR CHILD HOME.  When this decision is made, the parent/guardian should send a note to school and the absence will be considered excused and time will be allowed for make-up work to be completed.
